Hello, all. My name is Lee Magner. I am a senior at the University of Oregon studying public relations, and I have a confession.
Keeping a blog is the start of something completely new to me. There, I said it.
Like most of Generation Y, the World Wide Web is a big part of my life. Yet, never have I felt the urge to leave a digital footprint of my own or, in other words, contribute to the mass amount of media that is already out there. It has always been customary for me to keep personal ideas and opinions close and, well, personal. Who am I in the Web? According to Google, thanks to a recent vanity search, I am a well-established romance and erotica author. This startling realization, and being assigned to start a blog in one of my public relations courses, has lead me to finally change my virtual legacy by starting a blog. Because, while I am sure “Spouse for Hire” is a fantastic read, it is just not me.
Outside of the Internet and blogosphere, I am a fourth-year student at the University of Oregon. As an underclassman in college my idol was the famous sports agent, Lee Steinberg.
When Steinberg visited the University in winter of 2006, I was convinced that I should study public relations so I could become a publicists and work in professional sports. But with only two academic quarters left in my college career, and after spending nearly eight months half way around the world in New Zealand and Australia, I have begun to think smaller. How does the little guy get heard? Away from the constant hype that comes with professional athletes, is the Internet the best friend of a local non-profit company out to do good?
The above is what currently catches my interest. Well non-profit public relations along with travel, art, music and, of course, sports. My hopes are to create a conversation, record my epiphanies on the right way to go about a finding a career that strikes a balance between business and pleasures. Lets see how this goes!
